The situation is so bad that for the first time in history the honeybee has been classified as an endangered species. Bumble bee populations are doing poorly worldwide with declines reported in North and South America Asia and Europe. Even more alarmingly a recent German study showed that numbers of all flying insects fell by 75 in the last 25 years. Declining numbers of many different species of bees have been seen around the world which means that there is a real risk of additional species being classified as at risk or endangered if something is not done.
